The Steel Pony

I like to believe that when things look the worst, there’s always something good there, too, even if it’s hidden for a while.

There’s a story about a little boy who really really wanted to ride a pony. His father arranged with a farmer who had a pony to take the boy to the farm on Saturday morning for a ride.

When they arrived as scheduled, there was no farmer or pony to be seen, only a barn full of poop. After checking the barn, the father told the boy to wait there while he went looking around the farm.

When the father returned, having seen no sign of farmer or pony, he found his son energetically shoveling poop, flinging it aside in big piles.

“What are you doing, Son?” the father asked in alarm.

The boy replied, “With all this poop, there MUST be a pony in here somewhere!”

A couple of weeks ago my beloved year-old iMac named Ima went completely and suddenly bad. I hustled her over to the Apple store, and they worked on her for days.

I had never realized how attached we get to our computers, and it was especially trying for me because I work on it all day long.

I got to notice how much I depend on the computer for almost everything. I felt pressed to come up with ways to spend the time on my enforced vacation. My dog was happy with extra walks, but I was sometimes chafing and irritable and bored.

I just kept repeating, “There must be a pony in here somewhere.” Then I’d feel a little better and look for something creative to do that didn’t require a computer.

Cleaned out my closet, went to lunch, vacuumed behind the couch. Took naps, cleaned out the fridge, and paced the back yard a lot.

Finally, the Apple guys decided that the repairs were taking so long with no end in sight, so they gave me a brand new one.

Then I got to notice how attached I can get to things staying familiar. New keyboard, new mouse, new operating system—all good but took some adjustment on my part. Transferring files and buying new cables, and developing a new determination to become scrupulous about backup.

The new computer is fully installed and working perfectly now.

Her name is “Steel Pony.”

A possum under the house is a gift?!?

Our thinking is ALWAYS creative, whether we want the result of what we’re thinking about or not.

A possum helped me to remember this today.

I’ve had a problem with little teeny tiny ants in my kitchen, and spent a lot of vigilant effort to get them to leave. Traps, poison, and keeping even the fresh fruit basket in the fridge.

Then came the mice. I tried every type of trap, but did not feel good about killing them. Just wanted them to go away. But again, I spent a lot of mental energy and thought RESISTING their presence. I kept the dog food bowl covered except when she was dining, used scrupulous efforts to keep even the most miniscule crumb cleaned up and still: evidence of mice in the morning. I finally found a no-kill trap that I felt good about, and would take the offending mice to a field nearby to release.

Still, resistance, resistance, resistance to having uninvited critters in my house. And more mice.

Recently it snowed here in Charlotte, an unusual occurrence, and for three nights I had a hungry cat howling under my house, keeping me awake at night.

More resistance.

More preventive measures, blocking entrances and access, and still hearing the cat. But the cat didn’t get rid of the mice!

Today, a possum crawled out from under the house in the early morning, all pale and fat and ugly, shook himself and looked directly at me, then ambled slowly away.

By now it must be getting pretty crowded under there, I thought.

I was purely outraged for an instant, and then laughed so hard when I finally got the message!

All of my resistance to these critters was just bringing me MORE.

So, before I have an elephant living under my house, I’ve decided to let go of the resistance and see what happens.

I’m trying out some less-resistant thoughts, such as:

“I like to have a warm dry place to live and readily available food, and I guess the animals do too.”

“They aren’t hurting me or my dog.”

“I don’t have to LIKE having them here, but if I DISLIKE it so vehemently, I am only attracting more by my vibration and attention to them.”

“When I think about all of my routines and preventive measures, I really have to laugh. Some of the things I’ve tried are really very comical.”

“Their presence here has helped me see a great truth: WHAT I RESIST PERSISTS!”

Healthy body, creative life

I’ve had an eye-opening experience this week. For the past 2 years, I have taken a few teaspoons of organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water first thing in the morning and at bedtime.

I normally feel well and never catch the current “bug.”

I ran out of ACV last week, and forgot to get more. Within 3 days I had the world’s worst cold, and have spent the past 3 days in bed.

When I realized what had happened, I quickly got more ACV and am feeling much better now. I don’t believe that good health is to be found in a bottle of apple cider vinegar. I know that good health comes from my vibrational alignment with Source. And sometimes that alignment will urge me to do or ingest certain things and abstain from others to maintain that alignment.

The point here is, we have to do whatever is necessary to keep our bodies feeling good. I noticed how much more effort it took to think positively or creatively when my attention was focused on not feeling well physically.

So, whatever you do to maintain your physical health, keep it up and treat it as part of your daily sacred routine.

I noticed how much I and my wonderful dog missed our daily walks this week. That’s another way to reconnect with creativity – take a break, get out in nature, breathe some fresh air, do something good for someone else (even if it’s your dog) and benefit for yourself as well.

Creative thinking…

…leads to a more exciting life.

And it’s easy. Just picture in your mind what you’d like to experience, and watch how it shows up. Not always in the way we can imagine, but the results will be even better than we’d planned.

Here’s a fun story: Years ago I knew a very creative young woman and we lost touch. Saturday I went out “yard sailing” and stopped at one house and a woman yelled, “Sharon Powers! I’ve been looking for you and couldn’t find you!”

We had fun reconnecting and I found that she’s designed and making some very out-of-the-box hats (see them here: www.WearWithAttitude.com).

She actually pulled me right into her driveway with her desire to see me.

So, think about it today: what would you like to pull into your life soon? Just pleasantly imagine it, no furrowed brows or clenched teeth allowed! Have fun, and see what happens!

Now, don’t make your first attempt at something huge, like visioning having a million dollars if you’re financially struggling  right now. Start off with something small and easy, like seeing a blue butterfly or finding a dime in the street.

With my reconnection to my creative friend, I doubt she was thinking “I just can’t live another week without seeing Sharon!” I’m sure it was just a pleasant desire to rconnect, and then easily released.

If you think it was just a coincidence, I’ll tell you that too many things like this have happened for me over the years. I prefer to call them “coinkydinks” to remind me that they are a result of synchronicity in the Universe far beyond the normally explainable events.

Try it, and have some fun with it.

PS: Be aware that we cannot create in someone else’s experience. If I had not been interested in reconnecting with my friend, the event would not have happened. We can only desire and attract what we want for ourselves, and then draw the others of like vibration to us. For instance, a desire for a romantic partner cannot be targeted at a specific person, but the desire will draw a compatible soul.
